About fluconazole

What does it do?

Thrush is a fungal infection, commonly caused by a type of yeast called candida. Although candida is naturally present in the body, an imbalance can trigger thrush symptoms. Fluconazole 150mg (also known as Diflucan and other brand names) kills certain types of fungi and restores your body's natural balance.

Taking fluconazole for the first time

Fluconazole treatment for thrush is simple - just one capsule to be swallowed with a glass of water. You can take this medicine at any time of day, with or without a meal.

How effective is it?

Women taking fluconazole should see an improvement within a few days. Some women will notice improvement in 24 hours.

For men, the condition can take a little longer to clear up. The symptoms should clear up within a few days, although this can take up to a week.

If your condition hasn't cleared up within one week, you should consult a doctor.

Cautions when using fluconazole

Thrush is an infection which can occur without sexual contact, so it is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, the infection can be passed on during sex, so it is recommended that you should not have sex until the infection has cleared up.

If you regularly suffer from thrush, then it's advisable that both you and your partner have thrush treatment at the same time.

Taking too much can make you unwell, so contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you take more than you should.

Side effects of fluconazole

As with any medicine, there are side effects. Although a serious allergic reaction to fluconazole is rare. Common side effects (occurring in one in ten patients) include nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, wind, rash and headache. However, these side effects are usually mild and don't tend to last long. If symptoms persist, or are particularly severe, contact your doctor.

A full list of side effects is available in the manufacturer's.

I recently received a call from my doctor saying he's had to go to a doctor to get my kidney function tests done.

I told him my kidney function tests are normal and I'm fine. He said I should go to a GP to see if there is a change in my kidney function tests, and if so, he will ask me if I need a blood test. It took a while for the doctor to find out if it's my kidney or not, and then to go to the hospital for a check-up.

When I went to the hospital, I had a blood test done. I had an interesting test done on my kidneys. The results were very interesting.

I'm now on 150mg diflucan, and I've had a blood test done on my kidneys and blood in my urine. There are two questions I wanted to ask my GP. Is there anything I need to take? What should I do in the meantime?

I think the best course of action is to consult your GP. This would be an appointment that could last a couple of weeks.

If my kidney function tests are normal, they're probably not going to tell me that I need a blood test. I'm not sure about the other two questions.

I'll contact my GP if they want me to continue on to a blood test. I'll take the next blood test at the next appointment, and then be on the waiting list for another blood test.

Thanks in advance,M. HD. BC. M

I'd really like to see a kidney function test done. What I can't do is put the next blood test on my next appointment. It's been a few weeks since I started on 150mg diflucan, and I'm still feeling the test done. I'm not sure if the doctor can make me feel better or not, but he can make me feel better if it's what I'm feeling.

Just a reminder to note that I had to go to a blood test again in a few weeks after my doctor gave me the call. That's my last blood test.

Great post. I would be very interested to hear your experience. I've only been on 150mg diflucan for a few weeks, and have felt great in the past. My kidney function tests were good, but it was a bit of a challenge to find anything.

Hi M. H, I had a blood test done yesterday. I'm now on 150mg diflucan and feel great, but I'm now feeling the test done again. I was wondering if anyone knew of any resources that might be available for me to do this test? I tried Google, but I'm not yet ready for it.

I hope that helps.

Good post. I hope you feel better soon. I will ask for another blood test next week or so. I'm hoping for a change in my condition and then have the test done again soon. I'd really like to see it happen again.
